SEPTEMBER 17, 2024

On Tuesday September 17, 2024 at approximately 4:11 PM, Township of Washington Police were dispatched to the intersection of Washington Avenue and Colonial Boulevard on a reported car vs. scooter traffic crash.
Once on scene, Officers determined that the vehicle was stopped southbound on Colonial Blvd.  The vehicle was at a complete stop preparing to make right turn onto Washington Avenue, eastbound. A Female party on an electric scooter, whom was not wearing helmet was traveling eastbound on Washington Avenue on the north side of Washington, against the flow of traffic.  The driver of the vehicle looked right then left and pulled out at approximately 5 mph and struck the scooter with front of their vehicle. The female on the scooter sustained back, left leg injuries as well as facial lacerations.
Township Police want to remind everyone operating a bicycle, scooter, skateboard, electric bicycle, or electric scooter to always wear a helmet.  In the state of New Jersey, anyone operating a bicycle, scooter, skateboard, electric bicycle, or electric scooter shall ride in the same direction as vehicular traffic and must obey all state and local automobile driving laws.
