The Township of Washington Police Department has conducted a thorough investigation into the incident that occurred at the Westwood High School Senior Class Graduation on Thursday June 20, 2024. Video footage was reviewed, interviews were conducted and the involved parties were identified. It was determined the incident involved two graduating students and their families.
A total of 25 charges have been filed against a total of 13 individuals. The charges are as follows:
NJSA 2C:12-1A(1) – Assault
NJSA 2C:33-2A(1) – Disorderly Conduct
NJSA 2C:33-1B – Failure to Disperse
NJSA 2C:29-1A – Obstruction
The Township of Washington Police Department is aware there are several videos from the incident circulating on social media.
Police Chief John Calamari therefore, states it is important to remember that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
